Thank you!

I know this blog looks abandoned... but I had lots of activities since the last post: a last minute wedding related job for a bride going to Brasil, my son's birthday and graduation, a last minute trip to Brazil for my husband, and other issues that made me feel uncomfortable to come here... thanks God most of them are resolved or in their way. On July, vacations! I had two good friends from Brazil coming to the city, and we had lots of fun. Both also know my dear friend Sandra and we had a great dinner together.

One of them left on the 15th, the other on the 20th, and on the next morning my brother and sister in law arrived at JFK for one week. At the same time, two different groups of friends were in the city... I've never been in NY so many times in just a month, almost everyday!!! I really enjoyed!
And it's not over, I only had 10 days to put the house back on track, because last Saturday my in-laws arrived for 15 days here... I'm not sure yet if I'll be able to return to my usual blog routine before September, but in order to say "thank you" for those who didn;t give up :D or unfollow this blog, I leave a small and simple tutorial of a Thank You card I made for my dear neighbor Yoko (she took care of my kids when I was at Inspired). There's no great techniques or materials, but I really liked the final result. I'm missing this space so much...

Thank you Card - Tutorial

1. I started with a piece of 4.5"x6.5"patterned paper. I chose this with small dots on a "ton sur ton" effect. Other options are stamping a background on plain cardstock with Versamark ; dry embossing your cardstock; using a embossed cardstock

2. I used this stamp . You can also find something similar on the Internet and print on the cardstock or even hand draw it, it's very simple!

3. Add buttons (play with sizes and textures - mine are vintage) with Glue Dots, trying to keep a balanced composition.

4. With the ribbon coming from the back of the card, tie a bow right below the stamped image. Add Glue Dots to keep it in place.

5. After that, I decided to add one more button on top of the bigger one.

6. I stamped a "thank you" image on a piece of white cardstock. You can also print the word inside a double frame (you can do it using Word).

7. Cortei os detalhes do carimbo, mantendo a palavra e a moldura.
7. I cut out the flourishes, keeping the frame with the sentiment.

8. Com canetinhas eu pintei a moldurinha.
8. Using markers, I painted inside the little frame

9. Usando fita banana, apliquei a palavrinha no cartao
9. Using some dimensional tape, I placed the sentiment on the card

10. I inked the edges on a plain 5"x7" card, to where I added my orange paper.

E este e meu cartao... simples, nao? Espero que tenham gostado!
And this is my card. I hope you like it!

Beijos e boa semana!!

Carla

Have a great week!

  8. Hi, I was checking the Bokeh article on http://www.diyphotography.net/diy_create_your_own_bokeh#comments . I tried the technique and have been successful to a certain extent. However I need some help. I saw the beautiful pic of the snowman with snowflakes around him that you had posted in the comments section.

I want to ask how did you manage to take so much area in the photo (the snowman, and the background). When i try it, it am unable to achieve it with the background. I have to make the hole small enough so that only the light source is visible. I am unable to get the surroundings in the picture. It would be really helpful if you could help me with this.

I am using Canon 1000D 18-55 mm lens. Thanks

  10. Thank you girls for the lovely comments!!

    Dear Rahul,

    Thank you for your comment.
The 'trick" for the bokeh is the 50mm f/1.8 lens, no matter which camera you have. With these lens you can capture more light, allowing you to have a shallow depth of field.
In your case, since the 18-55mm lens are wide angle, you should be very, very far from your background and very close to the subject, what with these lens it can sometimes distort it.
I can tell you: investing on a 50mm f/1.8 (I would love to have a f/1.2 but it's very expensive for me right now) was one of the best things I did!!
    I hope it helps!!
